"summary": "Bettei Otozure is the intimate 18-room contemporary sister to the big, aging Otani Sanso in Nagato, connected to it by a private indoor walkway, and its guests are free to dine and use the facilities at the larger property (the reverse is not allowed). KI-NRT calls it one of the top luxury ryokans in southern Honshu, not quite up to the standards of the best of the best (Gora Kadan, Asaba or Takefue), and he would not hesitate to recommend it. He found it a good base for exploring the surrounding areas by car, and the place itself is not a destination.",

The one drawback is that there is less of it than at other ryokans, the hassun is a single dish where most inns serve several, and on two of his three nights dessert was fruit and only fruit. Teppanyaki is available at sister Otani Sanso."

He does not describe any communal bath, though Otozure guests can also use the facilities at the much larger Otani Sanso next door."

Nobody in the thread has written about the service during the stay itself."

The furnishings are contemporary Japanese, a plus or a minus depending on your taste. The one drawback is the semi-open plan, where the bedroom is in its own area but no wall or door separates it from the living room, which is not good if one person naps while the other works."

During his three nights he visited Hagi (very historic), Motonosumi Inari Shrine, Tsunoshima Bridge, Beppu Benten Pond and the incredible five-storied pagoda at Ruriko-ji Temple near Yamaguchi City, and he says it combines easily with Hiroshima and Miyajima, with the must-see Kintai-kyo Bridge at Iwakuni along the way."
