"summary": "Fuji Seiran is a five-suite newcomer on the west coast of Izu built around the view of Mt. Fuji across Suruga Bay, with spectacular cooking from its opening week. At $2,400–2,900 a night KI-NRT called it Asaba prices without the pedigree, and the trucked-in bath water, the shared walls and the lounge terrace that faces away from the mountain are where the near-perfection those rates demand falls short. It is best on a clear day between late fall and early spring, and if you have two nights he suggests pairing it with Asaba.",

KI-NRT's standouts were the salt-grilled unagi shirayaki, the grilled Ise spiny lobster sauced with its own liver, and a lightly seared bonito in soy dashi with fried garlic, a simple dish he called simply sublime."

Every room has a private onsen tub and a sauna on its deck facing Fuji, which KI-NRT still found enjoyable, but he says this would not be the best choice for a true onsen experience. In Souten the smoked-glass screens block the view from the tub."

Despite the claimed 150 square meters the real living space is closer to 100, generous but more like an Aman junior suite than a full suite, and the rooms share walls instead of standing as detached villas, which KI-NRT found odd. Avoid Souten, which sits lower on the hill and screens its deck."

Fuji rising across the water is the whole reason for the place. The best months are late fall through early spring, and if clouds hide the mountain KI-NRT is not sure he would recommend it, since unlike Hakone there is little else to do in Heda. The Yuhimi Terrace lounge is angled so that it has no view of Fuji."
