   "text": "The food quality exceeded KI-NRT's expectations, and they put effort into the dining. The quantity is much less than at many luxury ryokans, though: you will not go hungry, yet the sheer number of dishes that is part of a ryokan meal's appeal comes up short, at breakfast too. Dinner is in the restaurant at 5:45 or 7:30 only, with no in-room or private-room option, and after dinner a well-known shamisen player performed and explained its history."

   "text": "The bath is a communal natural hot-spring bath, one for men and one for women, which KI-NRT calls decent, and that is all there is: no room has its own onsen, and there are no baths that couples or families can book for private use, unlike at some luxury ryokans."

   "text": "KI-NRT says nothing about the service suggested a luxury ryokan. Nobody was outside to greet them or help with luggage, the entrance was deserted every time they came and went, and the staff stay behind the front desk, which left him cold. There was no welcome tea or sweets at check-in, no room attendant is assigned to you, the server changes from meal to meal, and there is no laundry service. There were no major mishaps, just nothing personal."

   "text": "The rooms are Western-style and carpeted, and shoes stay on even in the room, which KI-NRT finds unsanitary in a self-styled luxury ryokan. His 50m² room (category TC2) was comfortable but too small and constricting to want to stay in, the same complaint he has about Hoshinoya Tokyo, and the only suite was being remodeled and unbookable. Guests get samue instead of yukata, and the toiletries are substandard, with not even a moisturizer."

   "text": "The main building is depressingly unattractive as you pull up, the grounds are very small, and KI-NRT found the property bland, a place that could be anywhere in Japan. Behind the building is a man-made pond, seen from the lobby, restaurant and most rooms, with lanterns along the walkway and in the water lit at night, which he calls cute but a cheap way to spruce up a bland backyard. Inside is a Neputa art exhibit from the nearby artisan village."
