"summary": "A 19-room inn on the Amori River at the edge of Kirishima National Park, with hot springs gushing from the rocks and mallards paddling past the baths, which two “otherworldly” stays made a permanent fixture of KI-NRT's personal top ten. Seven springs rise beneath the property and reach the baths untouched by air or tap water, which makes it the most technically obsessive onsen in Japan. The kitchen never repeats a dish, and trilingual attendants like Clement can explain each course and the water itself.",

One couple call it the best food they have had at any ryokan, a 2025 guest one of the best meals of his life; one dissenter found dinner unmemorable."

There is a communal indoor bath, a mixed outdoor bath by the river, a drinking station and two rental baths, of which Mutsumi no Yu is the one to book. The sauna is tiny."

The room attendant handles every meal and the bath bookings, and a 2025 guest called the service impeccable. The one gripe came from a guest whose English-speaking staff were not Japanese."

Rurimurasaki, the 120m² top suite, sits on the level closest to the river, though KI-NRT found its wet-room lounge overkill and, like every river room in the main building, it faces Wasure no Sato Gajoen. Hanezu (80m², rebuilt in 2023 with an onsen-steam hammam) faces the street. Kirara in the annex sees only forest; one couple preferred the aged Tsubiya to the modern Suou."

There is no onsen town to stroll and no major sight close by, so KI-NRT suggests it for people who have been to Japan several times, and Wasure no Sato Gajoen sits across the river from the main building."
