"summary": "A 47-room adults-only inn from 1868 in the heart of Arima Onsen, run as a polished hybrid hotel with carpeted halls, a public cafe and a gift shop, and nothing like an intimate ryokan. Its 2023-renovated VIP rooms have their own Kinsen and Ginsen stone baths, a twin-water combination no one else in town offers, and in one of those rooms KI-NRT calls it possibly the best choice in Arima. Across two visits a decade apart his verdict is warm but measured, a solid luxury pick when you are already in Kansai, though he is not sure he would go out of his way for Arima.",

The cold chawanmushi, the sashimi platter and the seared Kobe beef nigiri were standouts, and the scallops, romaine and shimeji mushrooms cooked in butter were surprisingly delicious. The Kobe filet was excellent but not the top grade they offer, so KI-NRT would order the Chateaubriand every time. He preferred the food here to Gosho Bessho's, and breakfast was hearty but drew no wow."

The water is 100% pure onsen but recirculated (junkan) and not continually fed kakenagashi, which KI-NRT suspects is true of every luxury inn in supply-limited Arima, and the temperature was right for long soaks."

The property runs more like a hotel than a ryokan, with shoes staying on until you reach your room, and it is adults-only (guests must be at least 13)."

Wako, 119 m², has a Western-style living room, a tatami room, a separate bedroom with two double beds, two toilets and a deck with the Kinsen and Ginsen stone tubs; Atago, 99 m², combines the living and tatami areas into one space and has one toilet, but the tubs are the same size and the experience the same. Both were renovated in 2023 and have modern comforts without the musty smell of older properties."

"text": "The location is the main advantage, in the heart of Arima Onsen adjacent to the main street, with the shops, restaurants, cafes, temples and museums at your doorstep, a convenience KI-NRT says cannot be overstated. Arima is one of Japan's top three hot-spring towns, though KI-NRT has never been particularly fond of the town itself. The inn has its own garden, lit at night, but with 47 rooms and carpeted floors it has the feel of a hotel."
