"summary": "A heritage onsen inn at an Izu river confluence, built around a bath-and-sauna complex inside 90-year-old architecture. It holds a Michelin 1-Key, and is #1 of 47 in Izu on Booking at 9.4 and 4.64 across 101 Ikyu reviews. The recurring complaint is service short of the price. Book by room name, because only four rooms have private open-air onsen, and note that the rebuilt thermal spring now runs mixed-gender in bathing wear.",

Sake, wine and champagne pairings are included. Several 2026 guests found dinner neither good nor bad for the price, and Ikyu guests give the meals 4.54."

The private Hoshi-no-yu bath is free if you reserve at check-in, and tattoos are fine. The rebuilt thermal spring is mixed-gender in bathing wear, which Japanese guests dislike."

The Meiun-tei three are the most secluded but farthest from the baths (stairs, no elevator); Yamazakura is steps away. Corridors and tatami are floor-heated."

It is quiet wherever you are in the building, with a reading room and tea lounge off the main building and the heritage architecture kept immaculate. The one blemish anyone mentions is the derelict buildings visible across the river."
