"summary": "A design-forward ryokan in suburban Onomichi, with standalone-house rooms up to 81 square metres, an all-day lounge of complimentary sake, beer and whisky, and a Japanese-French dinner with a wine pairing. The one party to review it, ten people at Christmas 2025, called it a highlight of their trip, with immaculate rooms and extremely high-level service. At $540–650 a night it is toward the affordable end for this quality; the suburban location, with no famous sights nearby, is the drawback, and that one enthusiastic stay is the only account so far.",

He never saw the wine list, though he spotted Cristal, Gaja, Burgundy and Bordeaux in the cellar, so it is surprisingly well stocked. He was a big fan of the food, his wife, a pickier eater, enjoyed it less, and breakfast is a more traditional spread."

Kiri has a hinoki open-air bath and an indoor tub, Ume has an iron-kettle open-air bath and an indoor one, and the house bath is run as a bookable private bath for the rooms without their own. The one detailed stay was in Sakura, which has no in-room bath, and it never describes bathing, so there is no first-hand verdict."

He liked Asahi upstairs best, because its sitting room looks over the lovely garden, though Sakura below has the better layout and bathroom. Every room the party of ten took was in immaculate condition."

Inside, the design is stunning, the reception doubles as a guest lounge where sake, beer, whisky and gin are complimentary all day, there is a lovely garden that the Asahi sitting room looks onto, and dinner is served in the old wing. He recommends anyone in the area or passing through to stay at least a night."
