   "text": "Chef Ohigashi's French-Japanese kaiseki is why you stay: nine savory courses and three desserts, among them wild red sea bream cured under white asparagus foam and caviar, and a lobster head stuffed with its tomalley and roasted in aosa-nori butter. KI-NRT calls it one of the very best culinary destinations in existence, ahead of Sankara and Arcana, and RichardInSF found it easily Michelin-star quality. Drinks at the bar are free until 11pm."

   "text": "The onsen is in three private baths about 100 feet from the rooms, genuine sodium-chloride spring water, two with saunas and only one with an open-air tub, so check the tablet first if outdoors is what you want. There are no communal baths and no booking: an in-room app shows which bath is free, and with only eight rooms you can soak almost any time. The in-room tub is plain heated water. Buster CT1K found the baths nice and not too crowded."

   "text": "Mr. Nakamura, the GM, leads a team KI-NRT calls outstanding, proactive yet unobtrusive: when they asked where the baths were he walked them over, and their car windows had been cleaned before checkout despite being parked under a canopy. Later guests agree, with Buster CT1K reporting a very high standard of attention to detail, zander86 staff who make you feel right at home, and RichardInSF dining-room service worth at least a detour."

   "text": "The Western-style suites (Hachiyo was KI-NRT's) are 64 m2, on the small side for a top room, but light wood, high vaulted ceilings and massive windows make them bright and airy, and there are two separate toilets and a fully stocked bathroom. RichardInSF's suite was large and well-appointed with a real mountain-lodge feel, though his shower ran out of hot water one morning, and Buster CT1K wanted the microfiber towels swapped for cotton."

   "text": "Amanosato stands on a sleepy farming plain at the foot of the Koya range, with green fields, mountains in the distance and no Japanese garden, as rural as it gets, which KI-NRT counts as part of the charm, and the modern wooden buildings blend into it. Niutsuhime shrine, a UNESCO site, is just down the road and Koyasan is near enough to pair with, and he recommends it as the indulgent second night after a shukubo temple stay there."
