Seikai is the larger, original half of Beppu's two-inn Amane pair, and it holds the complex's big communal onsens, the French dinner restaurant and the buffet breakfast, which makes it the family-friendly counterweight to Gahama next door. Jalan guests rate it 4.8 across nearly 1,600 stays. KI-NRT has only crossed over from a stay at Gahama for its restaurant and breakfast, and nobody in the thread has written up a stay at Seikai itself.

Scores

Food

Dinner at Seikai is French, while the kaiseki table is at its sister Gahama, and guests at either inn can eat at both. KI-NRT, staying two nights at Gahama, wanted to try both kitchens, and he called Seikai's breakfast buffet wonderful and a big hit with his kids. Jalan guests give dinner and breakfast 4.7 each and describe a tasty French dinner and a breakfast they enjoy.

Bath

Seikai has the pair's large communal onsens, which Gahama lacks, and KI-NRT found them unnecessary for adults but great fun for kids. An ocean-view sauna was added in 2023. Jalan guests give the bath 4.7 and repeatedly praise how clean the baths are kept.

Service

A complimentary golf cart runs on demand between Seikai and its sister Gahama, a one-minute ride, and guests at either inn can use the facilities and restaurants of the other, which KI-NRT counted as a requirement. Nobody in the thread has written about the service here. Jalan guests give it 4.5, their lowest mark, and describe friendly staff in aloha shirts; many are marking an occasion, and how the staff handle it decides the review.

Room

Seikai is the larger, original half of the two-inn complex, and some rooms have their own open-air bath. Nobody in the thread has described a room here. Jalan guests give the rooms 4.8, their highest mark, and clean rooms are a recurring note.

Place

Seikai stands in Beppu, where hot-spring steam rises from the ground all over the city and you can smell the sulfur, which KI-NRT calls an awe-inspiring sight, though in the end he finds Beppu just another city, pleasant but no more, and the famous Hells very touristy and a bit fabricated. The property shares a parking lot with a big Nitori furniture store, and its sister Gahama is a five-minute walk across it.
