Azuma Farm Koiwai is Adrian Zecha's farm resort on the historic Koiwai Farm below Mt Iwate, with 24 Shiro Miura villas, farm-driven French-technique dinners, private sauna pavilions and deep January snow. It opened in April 2026, has under a year of operating history, and nobody in the thread has stayed yet. The villa baths are filled with onsen water and the dedicated onsen facility was slated for November 2026 at the earliest, so confirm it has opened before booking a winter stay.

Scores

Food

Dinner is included and is a French-technique tasting menu built on Sanriku seafood, Koiwai dairy and wagyu, which is the farm-to-table premise of the place. Nobody in the thread has eaten here yet.

Bath

Each villa has a large stone bath meant to be filled with hot-spring water, and there are three private sauna pavilions on the grounds. The dedicated onsen facility was slated for November 2026, so ask whether it has opened before you book a winter stay. Nobody in the thread has bathed here yet.

Service

The resort is Adrian Zecha's project with Azumi's Hayase and JR East, and it only opened in April 2026. Nobody in the thread has written about the service here.

Room

The 24 villas are built of red pine and cedar, and each has its own large stone bath. They are brand new (the resort opened in April 2026) and nobody in the thread has slept in one yet.

Place

The resort sits on the 130-year-old working Koiwai Farm at the foot of Mt Iwate, at Shizukuishi in Iwate, under deep snow in January, and Kyoto architect Shiro Miura of Rokakuya, a sukiya-style specialist, designed its buildings from 100-year-old red pine and cedar he picked out and had felled on the farm itself. Nobody in the thread has visited yet.
