Hatago (Arima) — bathHatago (Arima) — roomHatago (Arima) — settingHatago (Arima) — food

A small Arima inn where every room has its own bath of the golden kinsen spring water. The only stay in the thread is KI-NRT's from roughly a decade ago, which he remembers as pretty decent with junior-suite-sized rooms and a maybe on returning, yet in January 2026 he shortlisted Hatago first for an Arima night and found it fully booked. You stay here for the gold-spring bath in your own room; nobody in the thread has written about the food, the service or anything else.

Bath 4 / 5

Every room has its own bath of Arima's famous kinsen, the golden spring, and some rooms have an open-air bath as well. The kinsen is high in iron and salt, emerges transparent and turns reddish-brown on contact with air. It is not fed straight from the source here, though: by KI-NRT's own digging only four Arima facilities draw directly from the spring, and Hatago is not one of them. Nobody in the thread has described the baths themselves.

Service

Nobody in the thread has written about the service here.

Room 3 / 5

KI-NRT took the Hatsuzora Suite about a decade ago and found the rooms more junior-suite sized than suite sized, though the stay was pretty decent and he is a maybe on returning.

Place

Hatago is in Arima Onsen, Japan's oldest recorded hot spring and one of its big three onsen towns with Kusatsu and Gero, and KI-NRT counts it among Arima's big four luxury ryokans with Gosho Bessho, Nakanobo Zuien and Arima Onsen Kinzan. He has never been particularly fond of Arima or its town, though it is a delightful place for walks, browsing the shops and sampling carbonated onsen rice crackers. Nobody in the thread has described the grounds.
