An eight-room chalet-style ryokan from 1967, the only property sitting directly on Lake Shikotsu, full of old-school charm and serving a posh Italian gourmet dinner. Michaeljinnyc, the one member to have stayed, calls it the best hotel he has stayed in in Hokkaido and would go back, but he wrote nothing about the bathing, the service or his room.

Scores

Food 4 / 5

Dinner is Italian gourmet cooking, which Michaeljinnyc called fantastic, very posh and old school, and he thought enough of it to come back and add it to his post. He named no dishes.

Bath

Every one of the eight rooms has a natural hot-spring indoor bath facing Lake Shikotsu, and two private open-air baths sit at the shore, Ruri in cypress and Hisui in stone. The inn pitches them as the closest baths to the lake of any local lodging, and it does not publish how the water is delivered. The one guest who has written about the inn never mentions bathing.

Service

Nobody in the thread has written about the service here.

Room

Suimeikaku is a single-story chalet-style building from 1967 with eight rooms and plenty of old-school charm, but Michaeljinnyc did not describe his own room, and nobody else in the thread has stayed.

Place 4 / 5

Suimeikaku sits directly on the shore of Lake Shikotsu, the only hotel here with a true lakeside position, in a single-story chalet-style building from 1967 that is full of old-school charm. Michaeljinnyc puts Shikotsu miles ahead of Lake Akan and calls this the best hotel he has stayed in in Hokkaido.
